The recent spate of humorous answering machine messages
reminds me of one I got several years ago from an answering machine
in Kansas City (BTW it was a wrong number, but I'm still
chuckling):

        Hello.  This is John.  I'm probably down at the gym working
        out.  I've been pumping iron for a month now, and already I
        can tear a telephone bill in half.  Leave a message at the
        beep.
